Angular Cheilitis is one of the most common problems faced by millions of people around the world. There are reports that some people have to bear with this for several years. You can see this in children as well as adults. In this article let us have an understanding about this small but embarrassing situation.

If you have an inflammation at the corners of the mouth then it may well be angular chelitis. It is also commonly known as angular stomatitis and perleche. Initially it will just start like a small cut at the corners of the mouth. It may not hurt much in the beginning but after some days the inflammation will start. When you open the mouth wide it will definitely hurt. You will have to be careful about it so that it doesn’t increase. The more cracks that develop the more difficult it will become for you. In severe cases these cracks can even bleed making it more worse for you.

There are various reasons for getting angular cheilitis. Some studies have associated it with weak immune system. This is the reason why elderly people are more at a danger of getting this infection. Even in children it occurs due to some wrong habits like continuously licking the mouth, accumulation of saliva at the corners of the mouth etc. It has also been associated with candidiasis of the mouth. Generally the doctors prescribe 1% hydrocartisone tubes to apply to the affected area. Many people complain about the return of this condition just after stopping the application of the ointment.
